Making Lowfat Yogurt





If you buy the Greek yogurt you know how expensive it is, This recipe is simple.

1/2 cup lowfat yogurt with active culture.
1 qt. lowfat milk,
To quicken things heat the milk on stove top to 150 degrees
then transfer to hot crock pot until 180 degrees.
Shut off and cool to 115 degrees.
Whisk in the 1/2 c. yogurt ,
wrap in a towel with no lid and place in a draft free place ( in the oven ) for 13 hours.
Start it at night so when you wake up you will have 1&1/2 qts yogurt for the cost of 1 qt. skim milk. Add 1/4 c. dry lowfat milk at 115 degrees if you want a thick yogurt. The best is to strain the yogurt to end up with Greek yogurt, using cheese cloth, coffee filter, thin cotton towel. this is much healthier than regular yogurt with the whey.
