Braised Beef Lyonnaisee With 5 Spice Powder

3 lb. flatiron steak, 1 &1/2 lb. onions, 1-1 & 1/2 oz. fresh ginger, 8 garlic cloves. 2 T. five spice powder, 1 c. port wine, 1 qt. chicken, beef or vegetable stock, 1 T. sea salt, 1/2 tsp. black pepper.
